During World War II, lives were radically changed forever. Brabant Herinnert tells these special, inspiring, personal stories: big or small, about mobilization, resistance, collaboration or liberation. Stories centered on a life-changing choice.

Brabant: Bridge to Freedom
On the way to 80 years of freedom in Brabant
Whereas the program Brabant Remembers with 75 years of freedom focused on depicting the stories, Brabant Herinnert now in 2024-2025 with 80 years of freedom puts more emphasis on the connection. We aim to connect, even if it is not immediately evident. That’s where we try to build bridges. And with this project, we are literally doing just that. We let the bridges in Brabant, which lost their connective power during World War II because they were blown up or otherwise inaccessible, be a stage.
Would you also like to connect with your project? Then quickly read on the page how to join.
The Memory
An installation of remembering
Studio Herinner and Brabant Herinnert are going to pick up several stories to make them heard again. Studio Herinner then builds an interesting exhibition on behalf of Brabant Herinnert in which the stories are given a place. A place full of different perspectives. So yours too! This is a lengthy process and will take until 2025. We are also creating a book that compiles 80 life-changing stories.
Hiking trails
Walking in the footsteps of our liberators
The Liberation Route Brabant leads you past historic sites that played an important role in the final phase of World War II. The trail is part of the European LRE Hiking Trail. The Brabant Stage follows the Airborne Footpath and tells the story of Operation Market Garden.
Bicycle routes
The Liberation Route Brabant tells the story of the liberation, but also shows what World War II meant to ordinary Brabanders. Eight bicycle routes, spread across North Brabant, will lead you past life-changing stories, Liberation Route Europe listening columns, monuments and museums, which together make visible the impact of war on North Brabant.
